Over Tontitown’s St. Joseph Catholic Church<\/b><\/p>\n

Drew Shoptaw from\u00a0Agile Aerial Solutions shot these photos of what is left of a once thriving church building in Tontitown.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 St. Joseph Catholic Church is a parish of the\u00a0Catholic Church\u00a0located in\u00a0Tontitown, Arkansas<\/a>, \u00a0The parish and the town were established by a group of\u00a0Italian Americans\u00a0led by Father Pietro Bandini, who settled in the area as miners and tenant farmers in the late 19th century. Originally, It was a large Late\u00a0Gothic\u00a0structure, built in 1939\u201344 from rusticated concrete blocks that were fashioned on site. Its architecture was characterized by buttresses, lancet-arched windows, and a square tower with open belfry projecting at one corner.\u00a0 The building been a major cultural civic center for the local Italian community,<\/sup>\u00a0and was listed on the\u00a0National Register of Historic Places\u00a0in 2006.<\/p>\n

In December of 2017, the building was demolished, leaving only the tower in place. The Parish are in their new building, near by.<\/p>\n
